Wazzup at MATHalino.com: July 2015
For a site managed and maintained by one person, there are relatively many things happening behind MATHalino.com. We are writing this post to help our readers know more about the site.
Some contents are moved to another site
Many of you may have noticed that the pages on Surveying, Hydraulics, Geotechnical Engineering, and Theory of Structures have been removed from this site. These subjects are not listed in our commitment as defined on the About page.
For those who were using these materials, we did not delete the useful information. We simply transferred them to Civil Engineering Reference, a less-than-one-year-old site dedicated to those subjects.
The Forum Section Is Live Again
If you have been visiting this site for the past five years, you have witnessed how we tried to make this place a community website. However, due to a lack of technical expertise and moderators, we had to drop the community section several times.
Despite these limitations, we managed to make it live again, and we hope to sustain it continuously. We also implemented several security measures to help keep our data safe.
Test Your Ability with Our Fun Quizzes
With several sleepless nights and a lot of head-banging against the wall, we created a platform where you can take quizzes and measure your ability in our subjects. As of the writing of this post, there are two quizzes available for you to enjoy.
We did this to add more fun and provide more value each time you visit our pages. You may take the quizzes seriously to improve your problem-solving skills, or you may simply do them for fun.
We Grow in Numbers
This year, we have already served about 5.5 million page views from approximately 800,000 unique visitors, 40.2% of whom are returning users, spending an average of six minutes per visit.
Thank you for the time you have spent with us. Your repeat visits show that you have made MATHalino a part of your growth in these subjects. We are also about to reach 25,000 likes on our Facebook page.
We owe all of this to your trust in our content, and we are deeply grateful for it. Despite having no marketing arm and not spending a single cent on promotion, we reached this milestone purely because of your trust. Thank you very much.
We Moved the Server Closer to Us
Although we have readers from the United States and Europe, almost 50% of our readers are from the Philippines. To serve you better, we moved our server from the U.S. to Singapore.
Being closer means a shorter data route, resulting in faster page loads. Our benchmarks show an increase in performance. We also upgraded to a more powerful server. This is not our first server migration, but so far, it is the best server we have been able to afford.
Thanks to the ads on the site, MATHalino has become self-sustaining.
