Discussion on Problem 348 | Equilibrium of Non-Concurrent Force System
In this problem …the fixed support at point A has been shown to have only Ax i,e horizontal component while the fixed support at point B has both horizontal and vertical components, Bx and By. Is there any specific reason for the support at point A to not have the vertical component? I don’t know what I am missing here.Any help would be greatly appreciated.=]].

I think maybe because all loads are going downward. That hole at the top cannot hold downward load, it can only resist force that push towards it but not to force that go away from it. Imagine the hole to be deeper so that there is a vertical gap between the surfaces, I think that's it.

By hole do you mean the bar cd or the fixed support at A ? What I assumed is that if there is any vertical component for point A that is Ay,it would get nullified by the vertical component of B.But I'm not sure if that's correct.
And I dint quite get what you said. Can you explain a bit? Sorry.=S
I just thought by the rule of thumb there's supposed to be two components for point A,as it's a fixed support as per graphics..but that rule has not been applied here.Hence ..my question.
