Problem 2 -Bullet Fired from Building (Projectile Motion)

Why is the height of the building (120 m) is represented as a negative? The gravity I understand, but the height of the building being negative is kind of confusing for me. Please help. Thank you.

The origin of the x-y plane is at point O located at the top of the building. It is always convenient to position the origin at the initial point of our projectile.
