Equilibrium of non concurrent forces
Where does the 3(1/squareroot of 5) come from? From what concept? Please help. Thank you.

The number 3 is the vertical distance between point B and the point of application of 22.4 kN load (at the tip of the arrowhead). The (1/squareroot of 5)×22.4 is the horizontal component of 22.4 kN. Let P = 22.4 kN, by ratio and proportion:
horizontal over inclined
$\dfrac{P_x}{22.4} = \dfrac{1}{\sqrt{5}}$
$P_x = (\frac{1}{\sqrt{5}})(22.4)$
