Please HELP... Restrained - Frame - Indeterminate

Submitted by angelglide on Tue, 03/17/2015 - 16:39

Problem: A frame consists of two bars joined rigidly at B and built in
at A and C (see Figure). Determine the bending moment M at B
and the compressive force P in AB when, due to a rise in temperature,
the bar AB increases in length by 01.jpg

frame

Answer. P and M can be found from the equations:

Solution to Problem 450 | Relationship Between Load, Shear, and Moment

Submitted by Arra Clarize M… on Wed, 03/04/2015 - 01:31

Good day. May I ask if the 900 lb load in C is really downward? I think it is upward to maintain the shear of the 900 right? If it would be downward then the shear will be zero? Correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks!

Re: Solution to Problem 275 Thermal Stress

Submitted by Jay Mark Jamil… on Sat, 02/28/2015 - 18:11

Sir, could you explain why the deformation due to load & temperature of brass & copper are subtracted instead of being added?
